FRATERNITY & SORORITY CUPS (November 2019)

ALEX LEPRETRE a trainee solicitor in Chancery lane, London, won his third successive Fraternity Cup. Alastair Aitken reports.
The annual event organised by Barnet & District AC, was first run 85 years ago.

In the damp and, muddy conditions, there were still some fast grass stretches.
It appeared from the first half mile onwards, it would be a battle between the previous weeks London Champion, Seyfu Jamaal and Alex Lepretre. The two continued to be locked together, as they sped through the mile point.
It was on the first downhill that Lerpretre started to test out Jamaal and he then quickly opened up a 70 metre lead, which proved to be to his advantage for the rest of the race, and so he never looked like being caught.
Lepretre did have a cycle fall the previous week, injuring his hip and, did little training in the week of the race but, before the accident he was on 90 miles a week.

Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets won the team awards for the Fraternity & Sorority Cups and Major Carr, a Life Vice President of the club, which he had belonged to for 51 years remarked about Victoria Park's recent successes "When I joined there were 50 members in the club and now there are 700. It has really grown in the last 10 years and the students who came down to compete in London and, used to mainly join London Heathside, TVH, Serpentine and Highgate Harriers now also, join Victoria Park in equal measure."

Lucy Anne Charles, who was 2nd in the World Championships Ironman triathlon in Hawaii, having been 2nd also in 2017 & 2018 (The latter in her fastest time of 9:36.21) led all the way in the Sorority Cup. "It is my first cross-country this year and nice to get back to it, as it is not the triathlon season and you do need something else, even though triathlon is my favourite event"
She did point out "I do some mid-week races with Orion"
