Middlesex 10K (October 2019)

Sunday September 29

ABDI ABDULLE, for the third year running, won the Middlesex 10k.
He improved each year consecutively 2017 (31:15); 2018 (30:54); 2019 (30:28).
His coach Idris Hamud “He is consistent with his training now. He trains better and understands how to take care of himself”

In the race, after the rains had ceased, Mohamud Aadan and Abdi Abdulle, started to battle it out in the front.
It was at half way that Aadan had a 10 metre lead on Abdulle but, that was short lived as Aadan was confused about a marker at 8km and fell behind but, came back to challenge. Seyfu Jamal and Tom Aldred running together were next. Abdulle was very determined to win and put in a fast last effort, over the final 400 to go clear, with Jamal taking the third spot. Aadan had only flown in from Kenya the day before and, was using the race as a warm up for the Cardiff Half marathon on the 6th of October.

Aldred took the M40 prize and Alex Davidson, at 57, was first M50. He had been running, much of the way, with the youngest in the race 16 year old, Finn McCarthy who was in his first ever 10k race. The first runner over 70 years of age was 80 year old Doug Milsom, who was 253 of the 276 finishers. Milsom had won 5 events at the British Masters T&F Championships and remarked that it was the first time he had run 400 then as, when he competed years ago it was 440yards. ‘I was pleased with my 54.20 10k time to-day.”

Rebecca Piggott was the first woman in 38.10. That was a good time, considering she has had back trouble since the Middlesex cross country Championships that she won last Winter “I am an economist in the City and sit down all day, which has caused the back trouble. They are going to get a special chair made which could make all the difference.”
