Middlesex CC (January 2019)

Berkeley Fields, Greenford, 5th of January

PHIL CROUT won an intriguing battle with Alex Lepetre and Christopher Wright over the 12,000m course of fairly firm ground.
Wright led for 3 or the 4 laps but was always closely followed by Crout and Alex Lepetre and in fact, on the first lap Will Ryle--Hodges was also in contention.
Crout decided to make his move in the early part of the 4th lap and Lepetre challenged for a while but had to be content with holding off Wright... TVH, perhaps, were the surprise winners with 94 points.
Crout, who was the ‘Under 23’ National 5k champion of 2016 & 17, is doing a PHD at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge and trains with other good runners from the university...

Rebecca Piggott, who had her best Met League position of 3rd at Uxbridge last month was strongly challenged by Eilish O’Grady but came away at the end of the 2nd of the 3 laps and Yasmin Goater was not for away for third place. London Heathside’s team score was impressive, as all the four scorers were within the first 10 of 107 finishers.

Mohamed Ali (U17), who had been doing long intervals and hill work in training, moved from fourth place to take over the lead and won well. His coach Steve Mann explained
“I consider the second runner Elias Ahmed, also talented and he trains with Ali but,I stress to all my runners, it is good to do well as young runners but it is more important to work towards becoming good seniors..”
