Night of PBs 2019 - Part 5
Night of the 10k PB’s Race 5
Race 5 17.15 Still warm weather
22 completed and the first three were 1 Mohamed Mohamed (Hillingdon) 29:00.24; 2 Stefan Julius Gavril (Romania) 29:33.44; 3 Omer Ahmed (Birchfield) 29:34.89
This was an interesting case of seeing and, talking to Mohamed since he arrived in the UK, having been only one of two to actually compete for Somalia in the London Olympic Games of 2012. He had often had injuries since then. He did quite well and I saw him win the Ickenham 10k road race in record time, something even a fit Richard Goodman could not quite equal.
Injury though hit him badly often since then
“Since I came I suffered with injuries.
I came back into form, after the start of this summer. I ran 14:07 last week which I was very happy about’
He got his confidence back after winning in a BMC 5000 at Watford on the 29th of June when he ran 14:07 and, he has run a 14:06.7 at Watford too. His best before injury really hit him was doing his PB last year of 13:56.04 in 2018.
He was one of two people who represented Somalia in the London Olympic.
In his case he ran 3:46.16 in a 1500 heat in the 2012 Olympics.
