Thomas Chadwick, an Under 17 runner, who as an Under 15 came 11th in the recent Metropolitan CC League race at Uxbridge on 4 December and ran two personal best times on the track in the Summer with 2:18.79/4:51.05 for 800m/1500m, battled it out with Peter Laing for much of the Bottomist Cup Annual Boxing Day race, from Parliament Hill Fields, before eventually winning. The traditional Highgate Harriers event had always been supported by the late Ted Fosbrook a 'Great Club Character' for Highgate and now his daughter Deborah Laing has a lot to do with the continuation of the long-standing event. Her son Peter Laing was second in the race on soggy Hampstead Heath. The first three of 19 finishes were: 1, Thomas Chadwick, 21:19; 2, Peter Laing, 21:22; 3, Daniel Hickson, 22:21.The first woman was Bea Chadwick in 24:03 in sixth place.
