In the Friday Night 5k races Under The Lights at Battersea on 17th February Highgate Harriers men and women were firing on all cylinders, in the cool evening air. Alex Bampton, the University College London student who is a valuable asset to Highgate Harriers in the major road relays, ran second in a field of 53 in Race 1, finishing in 14:55. Metropolitan League Highgate first team scorer, Henry Murdoch finished 16:19, but has a better time of 15:20 on the books. Chris Smith of Huntington was first in 14:48.
In Race 2 the winner was Jack Steenson out of just under 50 starters. Steenson's time was a personal best of 15:09; also in a PB was Lewis Greaves in 15:41; 28th was Andres Chau in 15:53. Race 3, the women’s event, was won by Olympian Revee Walcott-Nolan running for Luton AC in 15:48. The Highgate runners Karina Thornton ran a personal best of 17:54; Jemima Renfer did a PB of 18:25 and Emma Coates ran 19:49. In Race 4 Alex Leprêtre finished in a very fast time of 14:25. It was PB’s all round in Race 5 with Terry Fawden running in 14:45; Flurry Griegson 14:48; Harry Allan 15:05 and Mattia Salvadori 15:27.
