I know Highgate's club record holder Alex Lepretre, ran another 2:15 min London Marathon clocking in this year's London but, spare a thought for Daniel Higgins, now 45 years old, who ran 2 hours 34.01sec. If you consider his standard of marathon running, is truly amazing. He first ran sub 3 hours in 2005,with a time of 2:49.26 and yet, since then he has run 16 London marathons faster than that 2005 time, which includes the 2024 one, when he ran 2:34.01. Most club runners would be pleased to do under 3 hours and, would not expect to have as fast a time for quite so many years like Dan has achieved..
Three much younger men from Highgate did achieve a good time this year doing under 2hrs:40 and they included Samuel Jinks in 2:25.54; and John Gilfedder 2:30.43; Jack Chennell 2:31.12 and Daniel Brewer 2:36:11.
Besides Thomas Chadwick's 3rd place in the Mini Marathon, two other Highgate juniors were in high positions in the large fields. In the Under r 17's Felix Kent was 9th and the same position in the Under 15's was by Arjuna Pflug.
Monte Watson, who has been running so well this season ran to a Newcastle University 10,000m track record time, coming 2nd in his event in 31:23.22 beating his best of last year which was 32:59
Lauren Russell has kept up a very good record. The Middlesex cross country Champion, was 2nd in the Mountain race at Keswick and makes the British team for the European Off Road Championships
which is run at the foot of the Alps.
