Martin Holland has been selected as the new President of the English Cross Country Union. He has been an official with Highgate Harriers, all the years I can think of, since I had been made Press Secretary in1966. A man with a dry sense of humour, who loves sailing! His family relatives have been involved in athletics with Highgate Harriers. His brothers Brian and Paul (the latter now in Australia) were both Sub 2 minute 800m men for the club and, their Father Pat Holland was an avid collector of the funds for Highgate Harriers. Martin has always put his hand to the pump with the club, like that other other 'Great' club Official Martin Howard so, the Presidency is in good hands.
Someone who has been with the club for 3 years now, which Highgate have greatly benefited from and, before that with Serpentine RC & London Heathside, is now a first class coach with the club. His name is David Chelfon, who is currently listed to coach 28 athletes. He advises Alex Lepretre, one of Highgate's top men. David Chelfon has written a book called" A Few More Laps": (The Sharp end of Running & Coaching), which comes out in October this year.
Nathan Sayer of Highgate Harriers came 8th in a large field in the Dartford Half Marathon on the 15th of September. His time 78.41. His best time being 74:34 in 2023.
