On the 21st of September, Highgate Harriers started their Autumn/Winter season, with sixth place in the Southern Road relay Championships at Aldershot. The first 25 Men's' clubs in the Area, qualify for the National Championships, to be held at Sutton Park, Birmingham on the 6th of October.
About 100 club teams competed at Aldershot. Highgate could still finish in the first half dozen in the 'National 'road relay, with careful planning by their Manager Ben Pochee. Cambridge & Coleridge were the winning team in 1:48.35 and Highgate's time in sixth was 1:52.07.
As usual Highgate had their 'swift' man Jacob Allen on Leg one and he came in 3rd in 17:49, having led most of the way, to hand over to Roger Poolman who came in came in 5thh on Leg 2 in 18:44.12 and Highgate held that position with Terry Fawden. who ran 18:42 on Leg 4. On leg 5 Joseph Young came in 6th in 19:07 and on the fifth leg Pete Chambers held on to 6th in 18:39 and Robel Bahelbi ran well to hold on to the 6th position till the finishing in 19:02.
