3rd Feb, 2025, Alastair Aitken

One of the toughest cross-country’s is The ‘National’, to be held on the 22nd of February 2025.

It will be at Parliament Hill, which sends shivers down the backs of some track men. A fear for the true track runner, because of the toughness of the course’ since it has been run over the years. Dave Bedford who lives in Hampstead Garden Suburb, near the Heath, was the last British runner to break the World 10,000m record. He was an admirer of Parliament Hill & Hampstead Heath for major cross-countries. He won the National several times and Southern cross- country Championships on the Heath. Even though the course has been changed since the 1960’s, to avoid things like running by Kenwood House, it still has been designated as one of the World’s best cross country courses and has a plaque, few countries in the World have, because of the huge standing Parliament Hill has in World athletics.
