Despite the muddy conditions in the National cross-country 1781 seniors completed the course, that wound round Hampstead Heath on Saturday. In the race that started on Parliament Hill, there were several Highgate men up the field despite stiff opposition.
Out of the huge field Highgate's 'Star' performer was Flurry Grierson, who came 3rd in 44:53, improving his position as the race went on, and well ahead of Shaftesbury's recent Met league winner Jamie Dee.
The first three teams to score were 1 Bristol & West 115; Shaftesbury Barnet 199 and Highgate Harriers 228 but many big clubs were behind that Leeds City, Tonbridge, Cambridge & Coleridge and Aldershot & Farnham,
Highgate's scoring six were 3 Flurry Grierson 44:53, 33rd Roger Poolman 46:55, 36 Alex Lepetre 47:05, 47th Terry Fawden 47:28,
51 Pete Chambers 47:38, 58 Alex Jacksom 47:53.
Also finishing in the first 100 in the massive field was 92 Sam Jinks 49.10 and 97 Joseph Young 49:32.
The senior race was won by Richard Slade in 43.52 with previous Southern Champion Jamed Kingston of Cambridge & Coleridge who did 44.23
