Karima is a mother of three children and still works full-time as a partner in a law firm. When her children were young, she kept fit by running to work every day, but since joining Highgate Harriers and focusing on her running more, she's been going from strength to strength, posting record-breaking times in the W55 category (women aged 55 and over).
- January 19, British record for 10 miles in 59:42 at the Fred Hughes 10 in St Albans.
- March 16, World best half marathon in 77:45 at the Fleet HM. She beat the previous best time by 2 minutes. (This is an official European record, but remains unofficial at world level as World Athletics don't track this event/age group).
- March 23, British record for 20 miles in 2:06:09 at the Hillingdon 20. It's very unusual for a veteran athlete aged 55 to win a race, but that's what Karima achieved here, beating all the women's age groups. She took 9 minutes off the previous British W55 record.
You won't be surprised to hear she's preparing for the London Marathon and hoping to notch up another spectacular performance. We wish her, and every Highgate Harrier running the LM, the very best of luck.
